Quickly and easily add your SARS-CoV-2 sequence data to the growing public archive with new, special features and support from NCBI. Our new SARS-CoV-2 sequence submission landing page will help you get started. GenBank submissions are accessioned and released in approximately 1-2 working days, and Sequence Read Archive (SRA) submissions typically processed and released within hours. Submission is simple!

  • For assembled data submission to GenBank, you only need a FASTA file and source metadata. To save you time, NCBI will complete the feature annotation for you.

NCBI supports both individual SARS-CoV-2 submissions and submission of large volumes of assembled and unassembled data.

Don’t worry about edits to your data post-submission; NCBI is here to help with a dedicated team to review GenBank submission updates at and an SRA self-service portal to ‘Manage Data’ for any changes after submission. Contact if you have a large volume of unassembled, next-generation sequence data to submit.

Stay tuned for additional upcoming SARS-CoV-2 sequence submission improvements as well as new functionality for programmatic submitters with large volumes of SARS-CoV-2 data. Follow us here on NCBI Insights or on Twitter (@NCBI).
