Updates to NCBI Assembly (release 1.25-1.26)

We’ve been making improvements to the NCBI Assembly resource. Highlights from the past two releases, 1.25 and 1.26, include:

  • UCSC assembly names added as searchable synonyms for most of the recent assemblies in the UCSC Genome Browser
  • Scope expanded to include International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV) species exemplar virus genomes and a growing number of NCBI viral neighbor genomes
  • Relation to type material filters exposed in the left-hand sidebar, including ICTV species exemplars
  • Annotation status filters added that enable selection of genome assemblies that have annotation
  • New file types added to the “Download Assemblies” menu, including a “Feature count” file with counts of gene, RNA, and CDS features of specific types and a “Translated CDS” file with conceptual translations of each CDS feature on the genome
  • BioProject added to the metadata section on the Assembly details pages
  • Contig N50 option added to the “Sort by” menu, allowing the assemblies returned by a search to be sorted by decreasing contiguity
  • Component sequence count added to the “Global statistics” table
  • Search by length range extended to cover assemblies with a total sequence length below 1 Mbp
